Mr. and Mrs. Hughes are married with five adult children and two grand-children. They had a "Boston Legal" moment in 2001, when an uninformed opposing counsel mistakenly referred to Mr. Hughes as Ms. Hughes' brother [which caused some snickers from the members of the Bar who were present and knew otherwise]. Mr. Hughes then rose and asked the judge and all present to "Please not tell the children" upon which audible laughter broke out.
